The governor issued an executive order requiring masks to be worn indoors, a mandate that also includes church buildings. We’re very aware that this is a difficult and controversial issue. We’re asking FBCers and guests to comply with this order and wear a mask while in the building (recognizing there are certain exceptions stated in the order, such as medical reasons not to wear a mask or while taking communion). Some may find this order to be good for our community. Others may not like this or see it as unwise. Yet, even in these cases, as long as these orders don’t contradict our God’s ultimate authority, we are still called to submit to our governmental authorities. We’re also aware that this has the possibility of being a divisive issue for our church, so here’s our prayer – would you be willing to pray with us on these things that God has called us to?
- We would rejoice and worship together in all the many things believers have in common – our good and sovereign God, our Savior Jesus, and the beautiful gift of salvation that has been offered to sinners like us.
- We would surround each other in kindness, compassion, and love.
- We would honor one another above ourselves, our words would only build each other up, and we would aim to live in harmony with one another.
