Trunk or Treat – An Opportunity to Bless the Community

By Pastor Mike Barnhart

Recently, I was approached with the idea of hosting a Trunk or Treat event in Medford on Sunday, October 29. I’ve found Trunk or Treat to be an extraordinary opportunity to come alongside a local community, with the purpose of blessing those in the community with an invitation to connect to Christ and the church.

In various instances, the Bible points us–as Christ-followers–to be involved in outreach and evangelism in our community, even outside of our church facility’s walls. In Matthew 28:19 Jesus says: “Go therefore and make disciples…” He’s not only referring to those who show up on Sunday mornings or Wednesday nights. Jesus is talking about going. Acts 1:8 contextualizes the Great Commission to refer to both our local community and worldwide, when Luke quotes Jesus saying: “…and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

It’s true! We are “witnesses,” each of us being “ambassadors for Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:20) or missionaries in the context to which God has called us. Therefore, we must seek to bless our community and point them to Christ.
